How does Buspirone (Generic Buspar) work?

How does Buspar work?
Buspar’s active ingredient buspirone is a medication in the class of drugs known as anxiolytics. The work action of this particular class is not exactly clear, but buspirone is believed to exert its effect by modifying the release of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. This action includes an increase in the concentration of the neurotransmitters noradrenaline and dopamine and a suppression of the action of serotonin and acetylcholine. This dual effect is believed to lead to relief from Anxiety.

Side Effects of Buspar
As this drug works in the brain, there are bound to be certain Buspar side effects, which commonly appear in the form of drowsiness, blurred vision, restlessness, nausea, upset stomach, insomnia, and trouble concentrating. These are all the milder Buspar side effects that rarely turn dangerous. Then there might also be certain severe Symptoms such as fainting, feeling lightheaded, uneven heartbeat, Depression, mood swings, unusual thoughts, and lack of coordination in body movements. These Buspar side effects might be the result of an overdose or allergic reaction and call for quick medical help.

Guidelines before Taking
As a prescription medication, Buspar should be taken only under medical guidance and strictly as per your doctor’s instructions. Buspar and its generic alternatives are only meant for prescription to adults and should not be administered to children below 18 years of age. Alcohol should not be consumed before or after a Buspar dosage as it could lead to severe side effects.

While Buspar is generally considered safe during pregnancy, women should not take it without fully discussing the risks with their doctor. This medication should not be taken within 14 days of having taken a MAO inhibitor as the combination could have potentially fatal side effects.

What are the common dosages of Buspar?
Buspar comes in the form of tablets containing 5mg and 10mg of buspirone respectively. The common dosage regimen of Buspar lasts for four weeks; anything beyond that should only be with your doctor’s approval.

Difference between Brand Buspar and Generic Buspirone
Branded Buspar cream contains Buspirone, which is also the main ingredient in generic alternatives. So in terms of effectiveness, both medications are same. But since generics do not carry a brand name, they are cheaper in price and also more widely available.

Anyone had Propranolol For Anxiety sickness?

I went to my doctor today about the Anxiety sickness ive been having for the last couple of years. i saw them 2 years ago and they gave me something to stop me feeling sick. it didnt stop me being sick, and neither do the herbal remedies from health food shops. the main worries with my anxiety are that i feel sick, i am physically sick occassionally, i have little appetite and a huge loss of concentration. i told my doctor i have had a few Panic Attacks.

she gave me propranolol to take on a day i have an exam to stop me having a Panic Attack. but i told her that this isnt just when ive got someting coming up its almost everyday that i feel sick and cant eat so she told me to take one each morning instead. however its not Panic Attacks that im worried about its the general feeling sick and i cant concentrate on learning for my exams very soon.
has anyone had Propranolol For Anxiety? did it work? and how similar were your Symptoms to mine?
i was also wondering about side effects?

Hi yes i was prescribed propranol 5 years ago for just like I
was feeling ill and nausheous all the time, unfortunately the propranol did not help me and I was put on more stronger medication along with the propranol. I remain on the propranol because it can help to reduce migraine, the side effect usually lower your blood pressure but if it is only 40 ml you are on you should be ok .Personally I dont think the propranol is any good for snxiety.
hope u feel better soon

How is an anti-depressant (Cymbalta) supposed to help my social Anxiety?

I was recently prescribed Cymbalta for my social Anxiety to take on a daily basis. But I’m not depressed, I just get anxious when I’m around people I don’t know. So why do doctors keep prescribing me anti-depressants? I tried Lexapro in the past but it didn’t really do anything and made me feel worse after a few weeks. I just don’t want to take a med that’s going to make me feel emotionally numb.
Well she also prescribed me a very limited supply of Klonopin to take as needed when the really Bad Anxiety hits, and benzos have helped in the past but only if I take at least 1mg but they won’t give my anything above .25mg. They just keep giving me anti-depressants and I’m not sure what they’re supposed to be doing.

Anti depressants do help your general feeling of well being tho you do have to find the right one. I see someone has said they didn’t help them at all so I’ll be the person whose anxiety did respond well to anti-depressants. Give it a try? 6 weeks in a reasonable period. If you have the same experience I did you’ll be glad you persevered. I found that daily situations that used to make me anxious just didn’t anymore. It was when I was squashed on a train and realised I hadn’t noticed that I knew they’d found the right thing. Then when I was used to not feeling anxious and I came off them I’d lost a lot of the fear.
