Keeping Children Safe From Predators

Take your kids complaint seriously to protect your kids from internet predators and cyber bullies. It’s not about over-reacting – it’s about being there to support your child if he or she ever becomes a victim of internet predators.

The actual definition of a stalker is anyone who lavishes excessive amounts of unwanted or unsolicited attention on another person. This is even true of internet attention. Regardless of where this attention comes from it can be considered stalking if it is in fact excessive, unwanted or threatening in nature.

Thesis include effective stress management, development of positive self-esteem, and ability to delay gratification for longer periods of time. Moreover, it has been shown that children who have secure attachments are better equipped to handle the process of individuation during adolescence which facilitates healthier psychological adjustment in late adolescence (Boles, 1999). On the other hand, it has been shown that prolonged parental separation and/or abuse, neglect, or insensitivity to the child’s needs will ultimately lead to subsequent pathology (Sroufe, Carlson, Levy, & Egeland, 1999). Hence, an insecure attachment bond may predispose a child to further victimization or even to become a predator himself. For example, a longitudinal study conducted by Burge, Hummen, Davila, and Daley (1997) predicted eating disorders, substance abuse, and personality disorder symptomatology in individuals with Secure attachment not only protects the child from victimization, it also provides social competence and resilience for coping with adverse life events…insecure attachment patterns. Other risk factors of insecure attachment include drug use, greater incidence of Personality Disorders, and there has been some evidence connecting the lack of healthy attachment to dissociative identity disorder (Blizard, 1997). In addition, it has been shown that anxious/ resistantly attached infants develop more Anxiety Disorders during childhood and adolescence than securely attached infant s (War ren, Huston, Egeland, & Sroufe, 1997). Lack of affect regulation, poorself – concept, embedded rage, and faulty working models of intimacy increase the risk for victims of insecure attachment relationships to develop a more violent type of pathology.

One of the first areas that will aid you to protect your children from sex offenders is teaching them how to safely and securely use the internet and its tools. Although many children are more interested in talking with their friends while online, they are able to reach out to others and strangers are able to reach out to them. There are many ways to protect your children while online that you may wish to consider. You may want to purchase special computer software that is able to block your children from viewing vulgar activities and language as well as monitor the online activities, which they do partake.

It is easy to set up a MySpace page; you can upload any picture you like, add any information you want to.

Despite what many people believe there are ways to stop cyber stalkers. The easiest and most common method used to identify these predators is a reverse email look-up. This process allows an internet investigation to be conducted and pertinent information about the stalker to be identified. The information that can be obtained through this type of investigation includes the intimidator’s name, address and phone number, place of employment, internet service provider, browser, website activity and in some cases even the operating system and location of the computer used.

It is probably safe to say that this trend involving girl games involve can be attributed to the Japanese high-tech culture wherein there is practically a video game about anything. From 3D pet dogs and cats to having your very own cyber boyfriend or girlfriend, the Japanese are surely quick to be able to come up and develop all sorts of cute and fancy stuff. As for online girl games, these come in different forms, the more cutesy ones are usually made by the Japanese while the more career type of girl games are usually developed from the Western part of the globe.

How do I deal With Anxiety?

Well not to long ago I looked at a page which listed Symptoms of a seizure. Even since then Ive been stressed that Im gonna have a seizure. I’ve been getting these out of body experiences, dizziness, and headaches. What scares me the most is the out of body experiences its weird because it feels like Im not actually here, like Im in some sort of dream. This has been going on for the past 2 weeks and its really effected my life. I’ve been missing school and having trouble sleeping at night. Im only 13 so this is really scary for me, I’ve talked to my principle about it, my docter and on Monday Im going to talk to a kid’s mental health guy. I dont think Im gonna have a seizure because if was a seizure I think it would’ve already happend.

So how I do I deal with this? I can exercise because Ive got a broken leg. Anything else I could do?
Sorry bout the spelling mistakes, I think you can tell where I made them

It sounds like you would benefit by talking to a Crisis Counselor. The Boys Town National Hotline @ 1(800) 448-3000 has Crisis Counselors available 24/7 who can problem solve issues with you or provide referrals to other agencies in your area. If you would rather chat on line, go to yourlifeyourvoice.org. We would be able to talk with you about how you are feeling and problem solve ways to better handle the situation that you are in. Anxiety can be managed by developing coping skills that could work for you. You mentioned that you can’t exercise, so think of other things that you can do to help take your mind off the topic of the seizures. Try listening to music, watching a movie, writing in a journal etc. These are examples of things that you can do that will get your mind out of the moment, or thinking about having seizures.

Good luck,
Counselor EA
